Lea Women’s Institute members have been out and about recently, enjoying a busy and sociable occasion as they served tea and cake in their own catering tent at The Carrington Steam Rally. This vibrant event celebrated farming heritage alongside craft stalls, live music and family amusements. Comedy act The Ruffs performed their well-loved repertoire, including their humorous number Inbred and Proud, which proved a hit with the WI ladies.
At the latest meeting held at Lea Village Hall, members welcomed Kevin Pearson, a volunteer motorcyclist with the Lincolnshire Emergency Blood Bikes Service. Kevin gave an informative and engaging talk on his role within the life-saving organisation. After many years of dedicated service, he continues to play a vital part in the delivery of urgently needed items such as blood, medication, vaccines, donor breast milk and medical equipment. These deliveries, made across the region, can be critical in saving lives and are always made at the point of greatest need. The service operates as a charity, relying entirely on kind donations to support its essential contribution to the NHS. Further details about their work can be found at www.lebbs.org.
The next meeting will take place on Thursday 3rd July, starting at 7.00pm at Lea Village Hall, DN21 5JA. This session will feature a demonstration by The Gainsborough Bowmen, showcasing archery and axe-throwing — with members invited to test their skills and see if they can hit the target.
