There is only one thing better than a pie, and that is two pies, especially when they are meaty and moist. The Women’s Institute members were sagely instructed when they attended the idyllic rural setting of The Lincolnshire Cookery School, where the workshop focused on making a pork pie from scratch. Fiona Lucas, owner and teacher, explained: “We’re farmers, so we understand the fundamental idea of field to fork. Our experiences and location inspire us to produce quality, tasty, and ‘want more’ dishes, and it’s a joy to share them with our students.”

On a similar track, The Trentside Group of The Women’s Institute was honoured to present ‘Gardening on the Menu,’ delivered by guest speakers Martin and Jill Fish. The couple are a husband-and-wife team; he is an experienced gardener with an abundance of knowledge, and she is a cookery writer of culinary renown.

Having moved to Lincolnshire in search of new pastures, the pair showcased their top tips on how to grow vegetables in the garden and how to cook them in the kitchen. Their weekly YouTube transmission, Pots and Trowels, is a potted masterclass advising on everything from forcing rhubarb to growing tomatoes.

The Women’s Institute is a support network that enables women to find themselves. It’s a treasure trove of knowledge, a bosom of friendship, and an avalanche of cake! In these trying times, everyone needs someone. For more information on how the Women’s Institute can put a spring in your step, contact Jackie Summers at the.summers@btinternet.com.
