The Kirton in Lindsey Society has teamed up with Scunthorpe-based digital developer RES Digital to launch an exciting new project — the Time Travellers Trail, a web-based heritage trail designed to bring local history to life. The trail officially launched on Monday 2nd June, following eight months of development.
The Time Travellers Trail uses GPS technology and your smartphone to guide you around Kirton in Lindsey, visiting 20 Points of Interest (POIs). At each stop, users can access spoken narratives, written stories, photographs, and in some cases, interactive ‘then and now’ image sliders for a fully immersive experience.
The trail begins in the Market Place, where a Start Board is located on the Kirton Fish Bar railings. Users can scan a QR code or enter the web address manually to access the website and follow the trail. The full route takes approximately one hour but can also be enjoyed in shorter segments, and it includes a walk down and back up the hill.
Sofa-friendly version available
For those unable to walk the route, a ‘sofa version’ of the trail is also available. This allows users to explore each POI individually, complete with all the same content plus videos showing the featured buildings.
It’s ideal for follow-up research or sharing with friends, and perfect for those living far from Kirton who still want to connect with the town’s rich past.
The trail is free to use, requires no app download, and is simple to navigate. Users are encouraged to save the website to their Favourites for easy access at any time.
This accessible and engaging project is expected to appeal to all ages, offering both residents and visitors a fresh and enjoyable way to explore Kirton in Lindsey’s long and fascinating history.
