The Kirton in Lindsey Amateur Gardeners (KLAGs) season of meetings continues on Wednesday 20th August at 7.30pm, in the Town Hall, Market Place, Kirton in Lindsey. This month’s talk is titled ‘The History and Development of English Gardens’ and will be given by a new speaker to the club, Celia Lord. Based in Gainsborough, Celia is a keen garden historian who has researched and produced this fascinating illustrated journey through time. The history of English gardens spans centuries, evolving from the formal layouts of the Romans and monasteries to the naturalistic landscape gardens of the 18th and 19th centuries. Key developments include the influence of French and Dutch formal gardens, the rise of the picturesque movement, and the emergence of landscape gardens by designers such as William Kent and Lancelot ‘Capability’ Brown.
The monthly members’ competition is a vase of perennial flowers (minimum of three stems).

The Annual Show is fast approaching on Saturday 6th September. Further details can be found in a separate article in this issue. Newcomers are always welcome – the group prides itself on being a friendly and inclusive bunch.
