Parents, are you fed up of the children glued to the Xbox or Playstation? Want them to work off all of those Christmas treats? If they are 15 and under and fancy being the next Owen Farrell, then why not have a look at the Gainsborough’s Junior Rugby Club, The Gainsborough Wasps.
Children of all abilities are welcome, and no previous experience is necessary to enjoy all aspects of rugby. The club promotes respect, exercise, teambuilding, inclusion and above all, friendship.
The older team trains on Wednesday from 6.00pm to 7.30pm and everybody trains or plays matches on Sundays from 10.00am to 12.00pm. They meet at the Roses Sportsground in Gainsborough and the yearly membership fee is £20.00.
Children, both boys and girls, aged six to eight years can enjoy tag rugby with the ‘minis’ team. As they progress, the older children can begin to enjoy the contact element of the game, such as tackling, scrums and rucks. All players are trained by qualified and DBS checked coaches.
Kit can be provided, lifts to away games and training sessions can be organised and all players have a free post-match meal. They have already had an exciting season with matches against teams such as Lincoln, Goole, Market Rasen, North Hykeham and Thorne; you can check out the action on YouTube! (Gainsborough are the ones in the yellow and black!)
If your child is interested, feel free to turn up to a training session, or for more details contact gainsboroughjuniors@outlook.com, call Jonathan on 07979 222262 or find the club on Facebook. They hope to see you soon!
