Are you, or any of your family past pupils of the Retford King Edward VI (Grammar) School? The Old Retfordians Association is a long-standing network of past pupils, male and female, and currently enjoying a modest renaissance.
In April 2024 they held their most recent reunion in the Ye Olde Bell, Barnby Moor, and tales of old flowed fluently taking into account the pupils are from a wide range of school eras. Guests enjoyed the relaxed setting, an excellent quality lunch, as well as continuing conversations into the afternoon, and in some case the following morning as well!
Pupils from the 1950s, 1960s, 1970s and 1980s have surprisingly common, and consistently enlightening, memories featuring the teachers they were taught by, and very often the pranks and schemes initiated by the pupils themselves.
It’s a sad reality that we’re all getting older, and the window to relive our youth is getting shorter, so don’t be a person who wishes they had done so this year! Apart from reliving tales of their actual youth, members are not beyond creating new ones and the group have photographs of old men on hoverboards to prove it!
For more information, please seize the moment to Register at their website, www.oldretfordians.org.uk, and check out the Events page for next year’s reunion details, as well as some online events they also hold, which allow more distant and overseas alumni to also participate. If your memory is already failing, the pages include full class listing for many year groups, sourced and kindly sanctioned by Nottingham Archives. Try them out, you’ll be pleasantly surprised!
