The first week in June is National Volunteers’ Week; an annual campaign, which was established in 1984, that recognises the contribution volunteers make to our communities every day. This is the time each year that community organisations take time to thank their volunteers for the time and skills that they gift to the organisation.
Volunteers are central to the work of countless charities and other organisations. They are a valuable presence in many communities, making a difference in places as diverse as sports clubs, libraries, schools and hospitals. Voluntary Centre Services exists in West Lindsey to help individuals to access their ideal volunteering opportunity. In celebration of all volunteers across Lincolnshire, but particularly volunteers in West Lindsey, they are holding a community event — a Volunteer Fair and Voluntary Sector Forum on Wednesday 5th June at Uphill’s Community Centre, Riseholme Road, Gainsborough DN21 1NJ. The forum is open to community groups from 10.30am to 12.00pm and the volunteer fair will be open to everyone from 1.00pm to 2.30pm. The volunteer market place session is a free drop-in event, and people who are new to volunteering are invited to drop in to find out more about how to get into volunteering. Equally, current volunteers are welcome to discover new opportunities. Community groups who have volunteer opportunities are invited to go along to promote them at the open market place in the main hall. Any local groups interested in having a stall at the volunteer fair public/open session can apply via email@example.com or call 01427 613470.
