Membership seems to be growing at Gainsborough u3a for the first time since Covid and their meeting in July was the best attended for months. Their speaker talked about India and he covered a vast number of topics in explaining his choice of the word ‘Inexplicable’ to describe the country. A good deal of his talk seemed to be influenced by the Partition and members heard a lot about this last year for the 75th anniversary – much of which was kept from us during our childhood. It made for an interesting morning.
The group’s September talk is likely to be a little lighter in content – Horace Liberty will be talking about the family store and its role in the fashion industry.
The Singing group continues to thrive and numbers are growing there. Occasional bursts of song are heard when two or more of the group meet up. The newly formed Craft group did have a venue problem but this has now been resolved and new members are invited to join them.
The Buccaneers are still finding new activities. They recently enjoyed a go-karting session and in September a small group will go to Widerspin National School Museum at Burton on Humber. In October, sessions have been booked at an Escape Room in Lincoln. Given that they have new members and that it is members who choose these Buccaneer outings who knows what to expect next?
As ever, new members are very welcome. There is information on their website – simply Google u3a Gainsborough. Their monthly meetings are at the Gainsborough Methodist Church on the second Thursday of the month. The talks start at 10.30am, but people are about from 10.00am having a chat and a drink.
