Gainsborough Snappers held one of their popular tabletop practical sessions during their November meeting. Members were encouraged to take small photogenic sets, ideally with a Christmas theme, for everyone to photograph.
Upon arrival, it was evident that the idea had been well received, with a variety of sets on display. Given the current challenge topic of photographing a candle, many displays featured candles, allowing members to address both themes simultaneously.
Some members enhanced their displays with lights, while others created appealing backgrounds using drapes or mini studios, featuring elements like robins, seasonal greenery, festive fare, and a Christmas scene complete with miniature figures and snow.
The creative potential was vast, with several sets incorporating alternative materials. The images will be critiqued at the December meeting, allowing members to compare their results.
The meeting began with an extraordinary general meeting to discuss the rules for the annual competition scheduled for February. Notable changes included marking each entry with its photographic genre, with the judge determining if it is appropriate in order to decide the overall winner based on the diversity and effectiveness of skills demonstrated.
Snappers is a sociable club, and the unstructured nature of practical sessions allows for conversation and advice-sharing among members.
The next meeting will be held on Friday 6th December at Beckingham, focusing on critiquing images from both the tabletop session and the current challenge of photographing a candle and an illuminated object. This should create a festive atmosphere before the next meeting on 3rd January, which will include the AGM.
Snappers welcomes guests and visitors between 1.30pm and 3.30pm on the first Friday of each month at Beckingham Village Hall for a warm welcome.
