Gainsborough Snappers

Gainsborough Snappers members responded enthusiastically to the opportunity to have a go at studio style photography in June. They had been asked to bring props to make the shots more varied and interesting, which produced a table that would not have disgraced a bring and buy sale.

One of the newer members and professional photographer, Russ Smith took charge. He described the mini studio he had created with a backdrop and two flash lights. These were linked to triggers which members were able to fit to their cameras to activate them when the shutter button on the camera was clicked. Russ gave an introduction to the effects of the light and the relative positions of the model and camera, then let members all have a go.

Sue Cross volunteered to model first and Russ shared tips learned from his professional experience. The mid-session break gave Kerry Muscott, a retired nurse, time to change into her theatre scrubs and she modelled next.

An excellent afternoon drew to a close with heartfelt thanks being offered to Russ for all the time and effort he had put into running this session, which is exactly what Snappers is all about. Those with knowledge and skills share it to help others improve their photography. The afternoon would not have worked without Sue and Kerry modelling and they were shown members’ appreciation.

Members’ results will be on show next month when there will be a critique session looking at their images as well as those from the latest challenge, ‘Spring’. For those who like to get ahead, the next challenge is ‘Fun in the Sun’.

Snappers are always pleased to welcome guests and visitors, so if you can get to Beckingham Village Hall, you will find a warm welcome.

Snappers meet between 1.30pm and 3.30pm on the first Friday of each month unless otherwise advised on their website. Please see www.snappers.org.uk for more information.
