Congratulations and well done to everyone at Gainsborough Heritage Centre, which is now officially an Accredited Museum. The centre is delighted to have received full Accredited status from the Midlands Arts Council England Development Scheme – a huge boost not only for the centre but for Gainsborough itself.

Special thanks go to Lynne Birkitt and the centre’s mentor, Katherine Ashton, for their advice, dedication and determination in helping make this dream a reality. Recognition is also due to the team of dedicated volunteers, too many to name individually, who work tirelessly to keep the centre running. This fantastic achievement comes just one year after celebrating the centre’s 30th anniversary, and the team can now proudly say: “We are a museum!” The committee also wishes to extend heartfelt thanks to members of the public for their continued support through membership, visits and donations.

Congratulations also go to local author Susan Edlington on the publication of her new book, The History of Castle Hill School. This beautifully produced hardback contains 124 pages of nostalgia, with photographs of pupils, teachers and treasured memories, including a cover image from 1960–61 taken from the Heritage Centre’s own collection. The book is on sale now in the Heritage Centre shop for £15.00 and would make a wonderful Christmas gift, along with the many other local history publications available.

It’s been a busy time at the centre as Christmas approaches. Andy Birkitt is preparing another excellent newsletter, while popular talks at the Club on the Park, organised by Karen Horner-Glister, continue to attract great interest. Keep an eye on social media for details of future talks. School visits and the Christmas draw have been arranged by Elaine Aries. It’s not too late to buy raffle tickets, priced at 50p each, for the chance to win £100 and other seasonal prizes. The draw will take place at 12.00pm on Saturday 6th December, and tickets are available during opening hours – Tuesday and Saturday, 10.00am to 4.00pm.

The Gainsborough Heritage Centre, situated on the corner of North Street (DN21 2HS), is disability-friendly with toilets and lift access to all floors. Admission costs £3.00 for adults, while children enter free when accompanied by an adult. There is no charge to visit the café and shop. On behalf of the Gainsborough Heritage Association, the team wishes everyone a very happy Christmas.
