October was another busy month at Gainsborough Heritage Centre, with the ever-popular Heritage Talks proving a great success. The next talk will take place on Thursday 20th November, 7.30pm, when Frank Powell presents ‘The X-Craft Midget Submarines’. Talks are held at The Club on the Park, with admission priced at £5.00. The WordFest Market stall also proved highly successful, raising £166.50. The Centre extends its thanks to everyone who supported the event and to the dedicated volunteers who helped to run the stall. Supporters will have another opportunity to visit the Centre’s stall on Saturday 8th November during the Remembrance weekend.
A wide range of books, both old and new, together with memorabilia, will be on sale. Visitors are also encouraged to visit the Gainsborough Heritage Centre itself, located on the corner of North Street, DN21 2HS, just a short walk from the Market Place. Admission costs £3.00 (children free with an adult). Exhibits include a tribute and Roll of Honour to the brave young men who gave their lives for King and Country. The café offers drinks and slices of homemade cake from £3.75.
Entry to the café and shop is free, and friendly volunteers are always available to answer questions. With Christmas approaching, the shop offers a range of thoughtful gift ideas, and tickets are now on sale for the annual Christmas draw, with a top prize of £100.00 and other seasonal rewards. Continuing into 2026, the Future of the Past Ghost Trail workshops will take place once a month on Thursday evenings. These sessions are aimed at young people aged 11 to 18 with an interest in drama and heritage. The Lottery-funded Future of the Past project involves artists across Lincolnshire and gives young people aged 11 to 25 the chance to engage with local heritage while developing new skills in art, theatre, music and history. More information can be found at http://www.futureofthepast.co.uk.
