There is good news for fans of Karl Woods, the brilliant artist and author of Twilight of the Mills. The Association’s talented author Susan Edlington has published a new book based on his detailed diary, a valuable record of his experiences during the 1920s and early 1940s – a time when he travelled by bicycle in his spare time capturing over 1,000 windmills on canvas along with churches, bridges and other subjects on his way. He did intend to publish this but sadly he couldn’t find enough sponsors. The book also features some of his paintings of buildings and yards in Gainsborough, creating a unique record of the town’s past The book is available at the, Gainsborough Heritage Centre, priced £20.00, and all proceeds will kindly been donated to the Centre. Many thanks to Susan for her generosity. It’s donations like this that help to keep the Heritage Centre open. Another Karl Woods exhibition is also planned with more unseen paintings an event not to be missed.
As a charity, the Centre relies entirely on volunteers. If you have time ln your hands and feel you would like to join the friendly team please don’t hesitate to pop in during opening times, or call on 01427 610637 for an application form and more information. Roles include cleaners, counter and shop staff, café servers and administration work including arranging group visits and publicity.
