It’s been an exciting half year at the Gainsborough Heritage Centre, with lots of different and interesting articles on display and a steady stream of visitors leaving positive reviews.
The reference room is bursting at the seams. with files containing information, newspaper articles and photos. Copies are available for a small charge.
The Karl Woods exhibition is proving to be a great success and the Centre’s fundraising events and group visits have been ever-popular.
Local teens have been getting involved too. They acted out a 1940s wash day and ran some drama and filmmaking workshops. These are the next generation of volunteers who are keen to keep Gainsborough’s heritage alive and they have so much enthusiasm.
The popular heritage talks have resumed. The first one was held in May, with Heather Hughs talking about the creation of the International Bomber Command Centre and June’s talk was ‘The Dangerous Women of Lincolnshire’ by Adrian Gray.
Coming up on Thursday 24th July is a talk entitled ‘Marshalls Built Bristol Fighter’ by John Steel. Admission costs just £5.00 and you can enjoy great talks and great social evenings at NEW VENUE The Club on the Park, Carlise Street, DN21 2HZ. All these events are arranged by exhibition officer Karen Horner-Glister and start at 7.30pm.
The centre is always on the lookout for new volunteers so if you would like to join their dedicated team, or if you would like to organise a popular tailor-made group visit, please contact them during opening hours, which are Saturdays and Tuesdays from 10.00am to 4.00pm.
The Association has been awarded five stars by Trip Advisor and was awarded the Historic Heart Award 2023. The Centre is situated in the old Post Office building on the corner of North Street, DN21 2HS. It is disability friendly, with a cosy cafe for light refreshments, and admission costs just £3.00, and free for children accompanied by an adult.
