Gainsborough Choral Society

Perhaps there is light at the end of the tunnel – after 15 months of not singing together, the Gainsborough Choral Society met in person at the end of June for an al fresco rehearsal.
This follows three months of Zoom rehearsals. It was a great opportunity to sing together once more and to continue learning the new commissioned work, A Sure Refuge by David Fawcett, a former pupil of Queen Elizabeth’s High School. This work was commissioned by West Lindsey District Council, supported by funding from Arts Council England. The 50-minute cantata tells the story of the Pilgrim Fathers and was originally intended to be sung last year as part of the Mayflower400 commemorations. The society hope they will now be able to sing this in November 2021.
Gainsborough Choral Society, founded in 1860, is a leading choral society attracting members from Gainsborough and surrounding areas of Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire. Currently around 100 strong, the society performs three concerts each year, and performs with a full orchestra, and visiting soloists as appropriate.
Anyone interested in joining the Gainsborough Choral Society should email for further details. In-person rehearsals should commence on Thursday 9th September, assuming that there are no COVID restrictions. For further information see
