Gainsborough Choral Society’s final concert of their 24-25 season was a brilliant performance of Verdi’s Requiem which took place on Sunday 6th April at the Bath’s Hall, Scunthorpe.

This was a combined performance by Gainsborough Choral Society and Scunthorpe and District Choral Society to celebrate the latter’s 80th anniversary, and was performed to an almost full house, under the direction of Neil Ferris, Chorus Director of the BBC Chorus. Participants and audience alike really enjoyed this joint concert.

Looking forward to the new season, the first concert is on Saturday 15th November and comprises Mozart’s Coronation Mass, and Ave Verum Corpus, coupled with Schubert’s Mass in C.

Carols for All is on Saturday 13th December, but this year they are moving the time to 4.00pm to make the event more accessible to children. The spring concert is entitled ‘Stage and Screen’ and is on Saturday 21st March 2025.

Rehearsals for the new season commence on Thursday 4th September at 7.30pm and will take place at the Function Room at Marshalls Sports Ground, Middlefield Lane, Gainsborough, DN21 1UU. This is an excellent venue, which is well heated and has excellent parking facilities. They hope this will be appreciated by old and new members alike.

Gainsborough Choral Society, founded in 1860, is a leading choral society attracting members from Gainsborough and surrounding areas of Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire. Currently around 75 strong, the Society performs three concerts each year, often with a full orchestra, and visiting soloists as appropriate. Vacancies exist in all parts, and the Society would welcome new singers. No audition is required – you just need to be enthusiastic about singing!
