Gainsborough Choral Society’s (GCS) new season is just about to start, and they have a fantastic programme of concerts for the 2024-25 season.

This season, GCS will sing two of the great choral works – Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana and Verdi’s Requiem. Sandwiched between these will be the ever-popular Carols for All.

The first concert on Saturday 16th November will feature Carmina Burana in the two piano and percussion version, and promises to be a splendid occasion. This work contains a number of well-known themes – several used in commercial advertising over the years.

Carols for All is on Saturday 14th December, and the Verdi Requiem will be performed on Sunday 6th April. The latter is a joint concert with the Scunthorpe and District Choral Society to celebrate their 80th anniversary. With a joint choir of around 150 singers, and a 60+ strong orchestra, this is bound to be a fantastic event.

Gainsborough Choral Society, founded in 1860, is a leading choral society attracting members from Gainsborough and surrounding areas of Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire. Currently around 75 strong, the Society performs three concerts each year, normally with a full orchestra, and visiting soloists as appropriate.

Vacancies exist in all parts, and the Society would welcome new singers. No audition is required – you just need to be enthusiastic about singing! Rehearsals recommence on Thursday 5th September at 7.30pm in All Saints’ Church, Gainsborough DN21 2JR.
