Gainsborough and District u3a’s AGM took place quietly at the beginning of March, with over 50 members in attendance. A key topic of discussion was the newsletter, which had been circulated to all members via email. Despite some technical issues, the initiative was well received. At the first meeting of the new committee, a small publicity group was formed to develop the idea further, and there is confidence that newsletters will continue to be issued in this format.

Group activities have picked up as spring approaches, with the Buccaneers leading the way through Nordic walking, town trail activities, and ballet visits, offering a diverse selection of opportunities for prospective members. Plans are also underway for a day trip to the seaside and a visit to the Bomber Command Memorial. Meanwhile, serious training continues for the Race for Life team. A Just Giving page has been set up for anyone wishing to support them: fundraise.cancerresearchuk.org/page/pamelas-race-for-life-1942.

The Kurling group recently held their annual Sunday competition, a tradition since 2015. Twelve members competed in a round robin tournament, culminating in a final between the top two teams. Bob Langmead and Margaret Forster (a previous winner) emerged victorious over Dorothy Dawson and Margaret Martinson in a closely fought match. The players then enjoyed a celebratory lunch at the Golf Club.

Two new groups have launched since the AGM. The first is a Card and Board Games group, welcoming members of all experience levels to play a variety of games. The second focuses on modern technology, aiming to provide help with smartphones, laptops, and tablets. Members are encouraged to bring their questions and problems along, where an expert will assist them in finding solutions. Details on timings and venues can be found on the website.
