The Gainsborough and District u3a Christmas party was thoroughly enjoyed by all who attended. The Singing Group led a lively session of Christmas music, which seemed to enhance everyone’s appetite for the excellent spread provided. There was also a variety of quizzes, which offered both entertainment and a touch of irritation for all. Thanks go to everyone involved in organising this event. Graham’s music quiz was particularly well received and certainly got everyone thinking.

Looking ahead to the new year, there is hope that the standard of monthly talks and the levels of activity in the interest groups will be maintained. There were indications that some groups were low in numbers towards the end of last year, but it is hoped this will improve as we approach spring and travelling becomes easier.

Early indications are positive. The Kurlers group has not missed any sessions over the holiday season, with 18 attending the first meeting of the new year. The bridge group is also expecting a full house at its first session, and the Buccaneers are holding a planning meeting – always an intriguing prospect given their unpredictable activities! All members are welcome to join any of the groups, and there is always the option to observe a session before committing to joining.

At the January meeting, members were entertained by Roger Browne with songs from his American Playbook; a report on this will follow next month. In February, Jeremy Eyeons will give a talk on Garden Wildlife. Then, in March, the AGM will take place. All members are encouraged to attend, and potential members are welcome to join. The AGM is usually brief, with the business section swiftly completed, allowing time to discuss ideas for the future.

Gainsborough and District u3a is always looking for new members. Expanding the number of interest groups and activities would be a welcome development. As always, volunteers are needed to join the committee, assist with refreshments, and help on the door by welcoming members and newcomers.
