The Christmas party at Gainsborough and District u3a saw the first public performance of their Singing Group – and it was a great success! There seemed to be several potential new members in the audience who were attracted by the thought of just singing for fun, which is said to be very good for us.
The group meets at the Trinity Arts Centre at 10.00am on the second Wednesday of the month.
The new year marks the time for membership renewal – at £15.00 per head – and if not sorted at the meeting on Thursday 11th January it can be done via any group Convenor. It would also be a good time for any newcomer to join.
Groups vary from Reading to Kurling, from Walking to Bridge, from Eating Out to Scrabble or, for the Buccaneers, whatever takes their fancy. It is also worth noting that the u3a is run by members, so if you have a skill or interest and would like others to join you, you can start up your own group under the u3a umbrella.
This is really how it all started, but it has developed into a forum for enabling retired people to go out and enjoy themselves – a very good idea!
The talk on Thursday 11th January was by Richard Pullen and was entitled ‘Famous Faces in the Trenches’. On Thursday 8th February, Steve Griffiths talks about his life as a spy.
The AGM is in March and the group is looking for volunteers to join the committee. Find out more at www.u3asites.org.uk/gainsborough.
