Gainsborough and District u3a’s boat trip in May was a great success and 12 members had a very gentle day on the canal from Burton Water to Torksey and back. The weather was kind and all went very smoothly.
The next visit for the Buccaneers was to have been a Go Kart adventure at Blyton. Unfortunately, this had to be cancelled as the track is being repaired on the date which had been booked. It is hoped that this can be rearranged.
The May meeting featured a talk about a visit to North Korea about eight years ago. It didn’t sound particularly attractive, and no one suggested that they were likely to visit in the near future! The speaker was well aware though that he wasn’t a travel agent and gave a very amusing and entertaining account of the various problems the group encountered. The story about a request for a second cup of coffee was hilarious and certainly set the tone for the talk.
The June meeting was an experimental one as the group is holding a quiz morning. Its success (or otherwise) may determine future events.
Speakers are booked for the rest of the year. In July David Mould is visiting to talk on the topic of ‘Inexplicable India’; it seems likely that India will turn out to be slightly more explicable than North Korea, but David’s talk will say for sure!
