In my last article I referenced the green shoots of volunteering, and over the last few weeks I have had increasing numbers of conversations with people who are starting to think about long term volunteering again. I am really thrilled to say that I have also had a number of discussions with some of our local groups and organisations who are now planning not only when they will re-open, but how and what that might look like and how they will involve volunteers again.
It is fair to say that the last year has taken its toll on many individuals, but also the community groups and organisations we were so used to seeing or being part of. We know that not all groups have survived, and those that have might need to do things quite differently, at least in the short term. We are here to help.
As a Volunteer Centre we continue to operate remotely, and are still providing support and information digitally including the Voluntary Sector Forums and Digital Coffee Mornings. These are a great opportunity to network or share best practice and have that peer-to-peer support from within the local community and from other groups who might be experiencing similar things. We continue to provide some training, including our Funding Ready workshops which remain online at the present time. In addition, Volunteer Centre staff are available to provide support on an individual basis to groups regarding all aspects of getting back up and running or maybe reviewing how you operate. You may need help with reviewing or developing volunteer roles, or thinking about how to attract new volunteers to your organisation, or perhaps you would benefit from knowing what funding is available and how to apply for it. It may be that you feel now is a good time to review your policies as you think about reopening, and need some guidance on what to include. These are just some of the things we can help you with.
So, if you think we can help in any way you can find all our events, training and general information, including ongoing COVID-19 support on our website. To book your place at any of our events you can do this through Eventbrite. If you would like to subscribe to our newsletter you can do this at www.voluntarycentreservices.org.uk/contact-us/.
As always, our support for individuals goes on, whether you are looking to get involved in volunteering or need the help of our Social Prescribing team.
