Pupils at Corringham CofE School in Gainsborough were treated to a visit from double Olympic champion Rebecca Adlington on Wednesday 19th June.

The former Team GB swim star delivered a special assembly after year six pupil Lucy won a competition to design a swim hat. The competition was run by Everyone Active, which operates West Lindsey Leisure Centre and Market Rasen Leisure Centre in partnership with West Lindsey District Council.

The prize saw Rebecca talk about her swimming career and her journey to becoming an Olympian – and of course she brought her medals along for the children to see! Rebecca also spoke about water safety and dangers to look out for, which coincided with Drowning Prevention Week.

Later in the afternoon a swim session was staged at West Lindsey Leisure Centre, led by Everyone Active’s swim teachers and supported by Rebecca.

Corringham’s gala team, comprising 14 children from years four, five and six who won this year’s Schools’ Gala at the same venue, took part in the session.

Lucy’s winning design has been made into a selection of swimming hats, one of which will be framed by Corringham CofE School and the rest will be handed out to pupils at the school.

Everyone Active’s regional swim manager, Amanda Budd, said: “It was fantastic to see the children enjoy a brilliant assembly given by Rebecca, and for her to help with the swim session at West Lindsey Leisure Centre was great as well.

“She did an amazing job of inspiring children from our local community and we’d like to send a big thanks to her for coming along. A special well done goes to Lucy for her lovely design, which won Corringham CofE School the prize.”
