With autumn well underway, Clays Gardening Club continues to thrive, offering members and visitors a lively mix of talks, hands-on activities and festive favourites.
The next meeting will be on Monday 20th October, beginning with the Annual General Meeting followed by a light-hearted gardening quiz. It is also membership renewal time, with fees confirmed at £15.00 per person for the year. Entry charges remain at £3.00 for members and £5.00 for visitors. With a full programme of monthly meetings featuring expert speakers, trips, an annual holiday and a Christmas meal, membership continues to offer excellent value.
On Monday 17th November, the club will welcome husband-and-wife team Martin and Jill Fish with their talk ‘Gardening on the Menu – The Winter Table’. Combining practical gardening expertise with creative cookery, they will demonstrate how seasonal fruit and vegetables can be transformed into delicious dishes. The evening will include recipe sheets, inspiring ideas and even samples to taste.
December brings a festive highlight. On Monday 1st December, the popular Christmas wreath-making evening returns. This session offers the chance to create a seasonal decoration while enjoying mince pies and a tipple. With limited places available, early booking is essential.
At every meeting, visitors can also enjoy the Green Table, where donated plants, seeds, produce, books, magazines and gardening tools are sold to raise funds for a different local charity each year. Contributions are always welcome.
Everyone is invited to join Clays Gardening Club, whether an experienced gardener or a beginner. The first meeting is free to try. Meetings are held at South Wheatley Village Hall, Sturton Road, DN22 9DH, with doors opening at 7.00pm for a 7.30pm start. For details, call Christine on 07572 262172.
