Beckingham Bowls Club

Beckingham and Saundby villages have one of the oldest bowls clubs in the area, founded in 1948, at the same time that the Beckingham cum Saundby Village Hall and Playing Field Trust charity was formed.

At the time, the villages’ football, cricket, tennis, table tennis and hockey clubs were also very active members of this Trust. Sadly, all those clubs have folded, leaving Beckingham Bowls Club as the only club left standing. They desperately now need new members to supplement the hard-working core of people who are keeping the Club going.

If you are interested in joining them, whether as an established player or new to this excellent and social sport, please telephone 07902 838286 for a chat.
They welcome people of all ages and sex, and if you just wish to join for social purposes, or to help in the running of the Club, you would be equally welcome. They have recently completed the building of a new clubhouse, funded by almost £20,000 donated mainly by local businesses, and last October their Bowling Green was hollow tined (cored), re-seeded and top dressed with seven tonnes of best quality top dressing. The extreme weather last summer took its toll on the playing surfaces of all bowling greens, and this work has allowed the green to re-establish itself to its usual true playing surface.

It was only a few years ago that the club fielded four teams in three leagues, and this year they aim to enter teams into the Gainsborough Bowls League and Isle of Axholme Seniors’ League, as well as running their ever-popular Open Pairs Gala Day on Sunday 19th July. so please join them to help project them to their 80th anniversary and beyond.
