Beckingham and District Gardeners’ Club had a different venue for their June and July meetings. In June, members visited one of their member’s gardens in Lea. The garden was a delight, with not only lovely flowers and shrubs but also some unusual quirky items, which made people smile. The weather was perfect, so everyone could sit outside having a drink, chatting, and eating the tasty cakes.
In July, members visited Hall Farm, at Harpswell and were given a guided tour around the garden, by Pam Tatum, the owner. The garden, which is huge, is filled with lots of unusual plants, as well as popular plants and has evolved over the past few years from a plant nursery, to the delightful garden it is today. Members were very lucky, because again, the weather was perfect for their visit and allowed them to sit outside to enjoy a welcome drink.
The next meeting will be Monday 18th September at 7.30pm in Beckingham Recreation Room. The guest speaker will be Rachel Barrowcliffe, who is gardener and advisor to Sir Andrew and Lady Belinda Buchanan at Hodsock Priory. Rachel will be talking about ‘Preparing for Autumn’, which will include pruning, taking hardwood cuttings, dividing perennials, lawn care, the benefits of mulch and a ‘Lasagne Bulb Layering’ demonstration.
The speaker at the meeting on 16th October will be Hannah Sylvester, Medical Herbalist.
Anyone who is not a member of the Club, but is interested in listening to any of the speakers, is welcome to go along to any meeting. It is a small club and visitors will be made very welcome. The Club charges £4.00 for visitors, which includes refreshments. For more information, please contact Pat Hooton on 01427 890357 or 07776 060247.
