Beckingham and District Gardeners’ Club had an excellent and informative guest speaker on Monday 15th May when Andrew Robinson spoke on all aspects of growing Dahlias for the garden and show bench.
Andrew is very passionate about Dahlias and considers himself an addict where they are concerned. It was lovely to see several visitors, who are also addicted to growing and showing Dahlias, come to hear Andrew speak. It was a very enjoyable evening, with Andrew answering lots of questions.
On 17th July the Club will be visiting Pam Tatum’s Garden at Harpswell. Visitors are welcome to join.
The Club does not meet in August, so the next meeting will be Monday 18th September. The guest speaker will be Rachel Barrowcliffe, who is gardener and advisor to Sir Andrew and Lady Belinda Buchanan at Hodsock Priory. Rachel will be talking about ‘Preparing for Autumn’, which will include pruning, taking hardwood cuttings, dividing perennials, lawn care, the benefits of mulch and a Lasagne Bulb Layering Demonstration.
Anyone who is not a member of the Club, but is interested in listening to any of the speakers, is welcome to go along to any meeting. The Club charges £4.00 for visitors, which includes refreshments.
If you are interested in gardening, the environment or related subjects why not go along to the meetings? It is a small club and visitors will be made very welcome. As well as talks from interesting gardeners and naturalists, members like to socialise and have organised trips to gardens and places of gardening interest during the summer months.
