Beckingham and District Gardeners’ Club had an excellent guest speaker on Monday 17th April as Dave Newman spoke about all aspects of propagation, giving members lots of helpful tips on how to be successful when propagating plants.
Dave is also a very keen advocate of recycling whenever he can. He showed members how to reuse items that are normally thrown away – using plastic drinks bottles as mini greenhouses, toilet roll tubes as plant pots and coffee grounds and tea leaves as natural fertilisers.
On 17th June the Club will be visiting a member’s garden, and on 17th July they will be visiting Pam Tatum’s Garden at Harpswell. Visitors are welcome to join.
The Club does not meet in August, so the next meeting will be Monday 18th September. The guest speaker will be Rachel Barrowcliffe, who is gardener and advisor to Sir Andrew and Lady Belinda Buchanan at Hodsock Priory. Rachel will be talking about ‘Preparing for Autumn’, which will include pruning, taking hardwood cuttings, dividing perennials, lawn care, the benefits of mulch and a Lasagne Bulb Layering Demonstration.
Anyone who is not a member of the Club, but is interested in listening to any of the speakers, is welcome to go along to any meeting. The charge is £4.00 for visitors, to include refreshments.
If you are interested in gardening, the environment or related subjects, this small club makes visitors very welcome. As well as talks from interesting gardeners and naturalists, members like to socialise and enjoy trips to gardens and places of gardening interest during the summer months.
