The meeting of Beckingham and District Gardeners’ Club on Monday 16th June was a visit to a member’s lovely garden in Gunthorpe. The garden has been developed over the last 27 years and reflects the member’s passion not only for encouraging wildlife, but also creating a space for relaxing, peace and tranquillity. The visit coincided with its opening for the charity ‘Help Me I’m Fine’.
July will be a busy month for the Garden Club; there will be no formal meeting as members are visiting the RHS Flower Show at Wentworth Woodhouse on 17th July and Morton Nursery on 21st July.
Two dates to put in your diaries are:
- Monday 15th September, when Mal Reynalds will be visiting the Garden Club, in Beckingham Recreation Room at 7.30pm, to talk about Growing Chrysanthemums. Mal is a ‘local lad’ who lives in Lincolnshire and has won the National Dahlia Championship, for the last two years, growing large single Dahlias
- Monday 20th October, when another ‘local lad’, Martin Fish, will be talking about Perennials for all seasons. Martin has over 50 years’ experience and is passionate about all things gardening. He is a horticultural expert, garden writer and broadcaster. Many local people will have heard him on Radio Lincolnshire and Gardeners’ Question Time. This meeting will be held in Walkeringham Village Hall, at 7.30pm.
Visitors are very welcome to attend both these meetings.
Anyone who is not a member of the club but is interested in listening to any of the speakers, is welcome to go along to any meeting. The club charges £4.00 for visitors, or an annual subscription of £15.00 per member or £20.00 for a family, which includes refreshments, if you wish to join. The meetings are usually held in Beckingham Recreation Room and start at 7.30pm.
If you are interested in gardening, the environment or related subjects why not go along to the meetings. It is a small club and visitors or new members will be made very welcome. For more information, please contact Pat Hooton on 01427 890357 or 07776 060247.
