Beckingham and District Gardeners’ Club

Martyn and Samantha from the local Five Villages First Responders gave an excellent talk and demonstration to Beckingham and District Gardeners’ Club members in January on how to assist someone facing a serious medical emergency, where every second counts. Members were encouraged to practise CPR and use a defibrillator on a life-size model. Following the demonstration, members felt more confident about responding in an emergency and would encourage other clubs, schools, and organisations to invite their local First Responders for a talk and demonstration, as it could save a life.

The meeting on Monday 17th March will feature speaker Neil Timms, who will present ‘Over the Fence’. His talk will explore the value of wildflowers – many of which are now intentionally grown in gardens – and the stories of cultivated plants that escape into the wild. This will be a particularly relevant discussion, as more people are looking to grow wildflowers to attract pollinators and enhance biodiversity in their gardens.

The Annual General Meeting will take place on Monday 14th April, followed by a talk from David Lewis on ‘The Perennial Community Gardens’.

Anyone who is not a member but is interested in any of the speakers is welcome to attend. The club charges £4.00 for visitors or offers an annual subscription of £15.00 per member or £20.00 per family, which includes refreshments. Meetings are held in Beckingham Recreation Room and start at 7.30pm.

For those with an interest in gardening, the environment, or related subjects, the club provides a welcoming and friendly atmosphere. Visitors and new members will be warmly received.
