The meeting on Monday 15th April, which was Beckingham and District Gardeners’ Club’s AGM, was very well attended. Dave Newman, The Sage Gardener, stepped in after illness to the booked speaker, and at short notice gave a very interesting talk on Auburn Hall Gardens.

Dave covered the historical development of the gardens, up to the current gardens. Auburn Hall open their beautiful gardens to support many charities, and over the years have raised thousands of pounds.
At the meeting on Monday 20th May Sally Smith presented ‘The Wonderful World of Weeds’, sharing her knowledge of the weeds that can be beneficial in the garden – not only to other plants and wildlife, but also to human beings.

The meeting on Monday 17th June at 7.00pm will be an open garden and social meeting, at a member’s house in Walkeringham, so fingers crossed that the weather is kind! There will also be a charity plant stall.

On Saturday 22nd June, 11.00am to 4.00pm, members Pat Hooton and Diane Derbyshire will be holding a Charity Plant Stall at Pinders Croft, North Moor Road, Walkeringham (opposite the school). There will be lots of plants for sale, refreshments and other attractions.

Anyone who is not a member of the Club, but is interested in listening to any of the speakers, is welcome to go along to any meeting. The club charges £4.00 for visitors, which includes refreshments. The meetings are held in Beckingham Recreation Room and start at 7.30pm.

If you are interested in gardening, the environment or related subjects, this small, friendly club could be for you. For more information, contact Pat Hooton on 01427 890357 or 07776 060247.
