Beckingham and District Gardeners’ Club members are preparing for the growing season ahead and are starting to plan speakers for their new program, which starts in April.

The speaker at the meeting on Monday 19th February will be Stephen Lovell, with his talk ‘Bark, Berry and Leaf Texture in the Garden’. Stephen is an excellent, very knowledgeable horticulturist.

Later in the month, on Sunday 21st February, Sheila Clark is opening her garden to the club to see all her lovely spring flowers. As a bonus, Rachel Barrowcliffe, Garden Adviser to Hodsock Priory, will be showing members the correct way to prune roses. Members can then show their prowess by pruning some roses themselves! This will be rounded off with hot soup refreshments.

For those gardeners who are thinking of making a pond in 2024, the meeting on Monday 18th March is one not to miss, as Dawn Fisher talks on ‘Developing a Wildlife Pond’.

Anyone who is not a member of the club, but is interested in listening to any of the speakers, is welcome to go along to any meeting. The club charges £4.00 for visitors, which includes refreshments. The meetings are held in Beckingham Recreation Room and start at 7.30pm.

If you are interested in gardening, the environment or related subjects, this small, friendly club could be for you. For more information, contact Pat Hooton on 01427 890357 or 07776 060247.
