The Promoting Kirton Committee of Kirton in Lindsey Town Council wanted to acknowledge the achievement of Kirton in Lindsey’s Mr Jim Flear with his success at the National Dahlia Society Exhibition Trials in autumn 2022.
Jim submitted two varieties of dahlia into the trials, named ‘Kirton Red Wine’ and ‘Kirton Dr Satpal’. He won a Silver Award for ‘Kirton Red Wine’ and a Bronze Award for ‘Kirton Dr Satpal’ – a huge achievement for Jim and awards which keep Kirton in Lindsey and this area of the country on the national map.
The Committee decided to ask the Kirton in Lindsey Amateur Gardeners (KLAGs) group if they could provide time during their Daffodil Delight show on Saturday 1st April for a short presentation by the Deputy Mayor, Councillor Hazel Fox. The group very generously gave time for this at their event, as the Committee didn’t want wait until the annual show in September this year to recognise Jim’s fantastic achievement.
Jim was presented with a glass trophy on behalf of the Town Council and the town itself for his achievements and to celebrate his new dahlias named after the town. He received a rousing round of applause from the crowd present in the Town Hall.
Congratulations Jim!
