I am writing my first column in my new role as a Project Officer for the Volunteer Centre in Gainsborough. For many years I have been involved in volunteering and community development, supporting volunteers and community partners to build stronger communities and giving people the chance to be an active part of them.
For me this is a new chapter after a very unusual few months, at a time when the summer has come to an end, children are returning to school and like me, many other people are adjusting to the next phase in our new way of life.
It has been a very difficult period for our community groups, many of whom have lost volunteers, but are now trying to get back on track. We are here to help in any way we can. Although we are still working mainly online, we are facilitating a number of new ways such as hosting virtual coffee mornings, so that you can not only talk to us, but to other community groups, so that you can share experiences, seek advice, and support one another. Please look at our website and social media to find out about all the support we have available.
Volunteering has been talked about so much recently – over the summer an army of people helped out in their neighbourhood, and for some people this might have been their first volunteer experience. We can help you to look not only at how volunteers can support your organisation as you change and adapt, but also the best way to engage them. We can help keep the momentum and passion going.
As individuals maybe you have volunteered in your community during Covid and want to continue, or maybe you have been inspired to start volunteering and feel that now is the right time? Sadly, many people are no longer employed in the job they were doing a few months ago so maybe you are in a position where you need to develop new skills? Whatever your reason, we can support you in finding a volunteer role that fits the time you have available, makes the most of the skills and passion you have, or helps you learn something new.
So, whether you are a group or an individual, Voluntary Centre Services can offer support and guidance – let us help you in your ‘new chapter’.
At the current time all our services can be accessed in the following ways: Visit www.voluntarycentreservices.org.uk, call us on 01427 613470 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
