The students of the North Lincolnshire Music Service were given the rare opportunity to take a masterclass with two up-and-coming musicians: James Gilbert (clarinet) and Julian Chan (piano).
It’s true that imitation is the highest form of flattery as the children copied the styles to push their knowledge to new limits. Part of learning to play any musical instrument requires the pupil to listen and mimic while they develop their own individual skills.
James and Julian were delighted to teach the children in the hours before their own stunning performance at The Scunthorpe and North Lincolnshire Concert Society. The programme included pieces from Gershwin, Poulenc and Bernstien.
The next concert in the series will be on Friday 21st April at 7.30pm, and will feature Jamal Aliyev (cello) and Maria Tarasewicz (piano). The cello is well-known for its rich and vibrant sound. In 2021, Jamal featured on the list of ‘30 of the most brilliant young classical musicians playing today’, selected by Classic FM. He is captivating audiences all over the world and is rapidly rising to the top of his profession.
Maria has gained an international reputation as a chamber musician, duo partner and pedagogue. She has performed in all of London’s major concert venues including Cadogan Hall and The Royal Albert Hall. Together, they will play pieces by Paganini, JS Bach and Chopin.
