New writing group in Gainsborough welcomes new members

Two years ago, following a successful six-week writing course, a small group of writers began meeting regularly to share ideas and encourage one another’s creativity.

Since then, the group has evolved. Some members have moved on, new people have joined and the group has found a new venue. Now, Gainsborough Writers Group is looking to welcome more members to its fortnightly meetings.

The group includes people of different ages and backgrounds. Some are established writers, some are working on novels and others simply enjoy the challenge of turning ideas into words.

Gainsborough Writers Group meets at XChurch Café, Ashcroft Road, Gainsborough, DN21 1BY, every other Saturday from 10.00am to 12.00pm.

Meetings are free to attend, although members often make a small contribution towards the use of the venue. However, there is no obligation to contribute.

The next meetings will take place on:

  • Saturday 11th July
  • Saturday 25th July
  • Saturday 8th August
  • Saturday 22nd August
  • Saturday 5th September
  • Saturday 19th September

There is no strict agenda. Sessions may include short-story writing, creative exercises, group projects, poetry and discussion about authors and writing styles. There is always plenty of conversation, along with tea, coffee and occasionally homemade biscuits.

Anyone who has ever had an idea for a story, struggled to get started, experienced writer’s block or fancied trying their hand at poetry is encouraged to come along. The group provides a friendly and informal environment in which to explore ideas, build confidence and enjoy writing with others.
