Gainsborough Old Hall needs you!

Love being part of a team? Good with people? Enjoy heritage? Or just like being busy? English Heritage is looking to attract volunteers who want to get involved at Gainsborough Old Hall.

As part of the ‘Old Hall, New Beginnings’ project, this call out for volunteers offers a unique opportunity for people to take on a range of different volunteering roles. The team is currently looking for volunteers to help with conservation, the book shop and meeting and greeting.

In January, the National Lottery Heritage Fund announced a grant of £222k to fund the creation of an employability skills and development programme for the community. This also included new volunteering opportunities, as well as revitalising the garden and enabling conservation works to the building itself.

More fun, family events and fresh interpretation is planned to better tell the story of the Old Hall, and support for a research project as well as the school’s bursary programme (which has been created by the Friends of Gainsborough Old Hall) is in train.

Joley Baker, Site Manager at English Heritage’s Gainsborough Old Hall said: “This is a fantastic opportunity to get involved at a very exciting time for the Old Hall. We’re looking for volunteers who want to be part of the next chapter of Gainsborough Old Hall and contribute to its legacy. We’d love as many volunteers as possible to get involved and there’s myriad roles that need to be taken on. You don’t need any previous experience, but a love of meeting people and getting stuck in is a key attribute.”
