The Food Bank run by Gainsborough Salvation Army is preparing for an expected increase in demand during the six-week school summer holidays.
Currently supporting between 140 and 160 people each week, Major Colin Bradshaw said the Food Bank can only afford to provide around £5 worth of food in each bag, regardless of the size of the household, because it is spending around £2,500 a month on essential food supplies.
The Food Bank is run entirely by volunteers, so its only significant expense is purchasing food. However, the rising cost of living has led to a sharp fall in donations at the same time as demand has increased.
Donations of food or money are always welcome. Cheques, made payable to The Salvation Army, and food donations can be dropped off on Mondays and Fridays from 9.00am to 1.00pm or on Sundays from 9.30am to 12.00pm, or posted to The Salvation Army, Beaumont Street, Gainsborough DN21 2ER.
