Gainsborough in Bloom held its Annual General Meeting in February. Due to committee members experiencing ill health and bereavements, it was decided to continue work around the town but not enter the East Midlands in Bloom Large Town competition this year, as a result of the workload involved.
However, Marshall’s Yard will be entering the Best Retail category and Hickman Hill Hotel the Best Hotel / Pub Garden category, both of which they won last year. Best wishes are extended to them, and it is hoped that Parish Church School will also enter the Best School Garden category.
The group will continue its efforts to improve the appearance of the town. Grant funding has been secured through Groundwork over the winter, and some of this will be used to replace planters around the town, which will be filled with colourful displays. Morton Corner has already been planted with perennial shrubs, which should soon be in bloom.
It is hoped that the group will return to the East Midlands in Bloom competition next year with renewed momentum. As always, this work relies on volunteers, and anyone interested in helping is very welcome to join. Gardening experience is not required, just a willingness to spare a few hours from time to time to support ongoing projects.
