Workhouse Players are delighted to have been asked by their audiences to bring back the smash-hit play from 2024, The Leading Man.
Barry Smith will return, badder and meaner than ever, to Gainsborough’s Old Nick Theatre on Thursday 16th April and Friday 17th April at 7.30pm, with a Saturday matinee on Saturday 18th April at 2.00pm. This original play was written by local Corringham writer Max Jones. The production also welcomes back the original cast: Phil Jones, Sarah Clark, Sam Daniel, Michelle Havill and Nick Hartshorn, with Anthony Weaver joining the cast in the role of Dad.
The story follows Barry Smith, a divisive media personality and former 1980s journalist, who returns to Western Television where his controversial career began, to give his final television appearance and interview. All those sensational, attention-grabbing headline stories he wrote years ago may have faded into history, but Barry soon learns that the past does not always go away.
Audiences are invited to see the talented cast of local actors and crew perform this funny, witty and thought-provoking play – at times harsh but always engaging – at The Old Nick Theatre, 31 Spring Gardens, Gainsborough DN21 2AY.
