The Kirton in Lindsey Society is pleased to announce that it has been awarded the Flora Murray Award by the Society for Lincolnshire History and Archaeology. The award recognises excellence in the research, publishing and interpretation of local history and has been presented for the Society’s work in producing the Kirton in Lindsey Time Travellers Trail.
Launched in June 2025, the trail makes aspects of Kirton in Lindsey’s history accessible to a wider audience through a digital format that can be used on a smartphone, tablet or PC anywhere in the world. A range of media is used to bring to life the town’s varied and significant past.
For those wishing to follow the trail in person, GPS guidance leads walkers around the streets to visit 21 points of interest, spanning periods from the medieval era through to the twentieth century. The trail starts and finishes in the Market Place, takes in a route down the hill and back up again, and takes approximately one hour to complete.
The trail was researched and written by Mary and Martin Hollingsworth, Chair and Secretary of the Kirton in Lindsey Society, with the technical development provided by Resolution, a digital services company based in Scunthorpe. Funding for the project came from a combination of local fundraising, the Society’s own funds and a grant from the North Lincolnshire Council Community Grants Scheme.

Upcoming meetings
The Kirton in Lindsey Society’s season of indoor meetings continues on Tuesday 24th March at 7.30pm, at the Town Hall, Market Place, Kirton in Lindsey.
The talk on this occasion is titled A Pictorial Tour of Bygone Lincoln. Victorian and Edwardian photographers recorded everything from royal visits to everyday life in the city. Using photographs from the John Wilson Collection, local historian and collector Chris Hewis will show just how much Lincoln has changed over the past 100 years.
A further date for the diary is not to be missed. On the evening of Saturday 23rd May, the de Mowbray’s Musicke group will be performing in St Andrew’s United Church with their show The Instruments of the Luttrell Psalter. Further details will be published in the April issue.
