October was a busy month for Gainsborough and District u3a. Members enjoyed an engaging talk from Dr Terry Newell on the Lincoln poet Alfred Lord Tennyson, while the Art Group attended a demonstration on using acrylic paints by local artist Elaine Nash at Beckingham Village Hall.
There are now 22 active interest groups covering all kinds of activities – from physical to more relaxed pursuits – ensuring there’s something for everyone. Preparations are well underway for the Christmas Party, which will take place on Thursday 11th December from 10.30am to 1.00pm. As autumn evenings grow darker, some may prefer daytime activities, and Gainsborough u3a offers plenty of opportunities to stay social and stimulated. Monthly meetings are held at the Methodist Church on the second Thursday of each month from 10.00am to 12.00pm.
A wide variety of indoor activity groups run throughout the week, including board games, snooker, bowling, bridge, canasta, craft, kurling and many more. Visitors are encouraged to go along and see the full range of what the group offers – there’s always something new to discover.
Anyone over 45 who is retired or working part-time will be made very welcome. The first visit is free, followed by an annual membership fee of £15.00 and £2.00 per monthly meeting, which includes drinks and biscuits. For more information, visit http://www.u3asites.org.uk/gainsborough.
