The topic for the October meeting of Snappers Camera Club was ‘My Favourite Photos’. This gave members considerable scope and they responded with both printed and digitally projected images.c The prints came first and there was a good showing of images from the natural world. Des Lloyd brought a selection of shots of deer and Sue Cross later showed her own lovely shot of a deer. Tom Coulson had been to Yorkshire Wildlife Park where he enjoyed photographing the animals. His first was the elusive red panda.
Joyce Bell is something of a monochrome specialist and she showed a selection of images which have done well for her. Both an old shack and a bandstand in Brighton had won competitions at the Retford club. The bandstand was later exhibited in Retford, where it was seen by a lady who contacted the club and asked if she could have a copy on a birthday card to give her husband. This was achieved, much to the delight of the lady.
Joyce brought one very special colour print. This the very first image which had won a competition for her. It was taken on colour film, in the era before digital, and she announced that the judge who gave her that win was none other than Peter Yeo who had earlier shown some of his geometric shots. Both Peter and Russ Smith showed shots which highlighted brightly coloured cars. These were the inspiration for the next challenge, in which members will need to find and bring shots of something blue, with no limit on what the subject is.
Sue Cross and Alan Pinder showed photo sets from walks, while another series of images were from the Longest Yarn 2 exhibition recently held at Southwell Minster. Human models dancing appeared among the prints and one of a young woman in a milky bath was shown by Russ Smith.
Before the next meeting in Beckingham Village Hall on Friday 7th November, members of the group will have visited the Museum of Timekeeping at Upton, near Newark. These social sessions are an important feature of this unique club. The next meeting will be a practical session of tabletop photography with a Christmas theme.
