The Rotherham Rep, Rotherham’s leading amateur dramatic society, is delighted to announce its upcoming production of the hilarious and timeless British comedy Blackadder the Third.
This theatrical adaptation will feature a reunion of familiar faces, as the cast from The Rotherham Rep’s hugely successful past productions of Blackadder Goes Forth and Blackadder II returns to the stage. Based on the beloved BBC TV series, the production promises an evening of quick-witted dialogue, historical satire and laugh-out-loud moments. Reprising their celebrated roles, Shaun McHale returns as the cunning Edmund Blackadder, while Roger Hazelwood once again plays his loyal, if dim-witted, sidekick Baldrick. Richard Wilshaw will rule on high as the bumbling, inept Prince George, with several other familiar faces from previous shows returning in new roles.
Danny Hastie, who will be reprising Stephen Fry’s role as the Duke of Wellington, said: “We are incredibly excited to bring Blackadder the Third to the Rotherham stage with this remarkable returning cast. The chemistry between the actors in our previous productions was fantastic, and it feels like a genuine family reunion to be back.
“It is a joy to watch in rehearsal as we capture the iconic humour and brilliant writing of the original. We cannot wait to share this with the Rotherham community.” Set in the decadent and morally bankrupt world of the late eighteenth century, the play follows Blackadder as he navigates a series of absurd schemes and ‘cunning plans’ to improve his station – often with disastrous and side-splitting results. The Rep will bring to life three of the original episodes: Sense and Senility, Amy and Amiability, and Duel and Duality.
Known for its high-quality productions and celebrating its centenary in 2026, The Rotherham Rep is proud to continue its tradition of delivering memorable and engaging theatre for local audiences. Performances take place from Tuesday 11th to Friday 14th November, 7.30pm, at Rotherham Civic Theatre. Tickets are available now from the Rotherham Civic Theatre Box Office or online at rotherhamtheatres.ticketsolve.com/ticketbooth/shows/1173661810
