With autumn here and the children back at school, many remark that ‘time flies’ – especially when having fun. That is all the more reason to make the most of life after full-time employment by exploring new interests and perhaps learning a new skill. Lindsey u3a offers all of this in a friendly, local and low-cost setting.
Here is a sample of activities planned by some of the groups:

  • Wednesday 10th September – The Theatre Group will see Blood Brothers at Nottingham Theatre Royal.
  • Thursday 18th September – The Architecture Group will enjoy an Uphill Lincoln walk entitled Murder Mayhem.
  • Tuesday 23rd September – The Garden Group will host a talk on Organic Gardening.
  • Tuesday 30th September – The Visits Group will tour Thorne’s Beehive Specialist with lunch at the Buzz Stop.

Members can take part in any excursions (space permitting). Details of all interest groups, meeting venues and times, plus visits, theatre trips, lunches and holidays can be found at http://www.lindseyu3a.org.uk.

General meetings are held at Welton Village Hall, usually on the first Thursday of the month. Doors open at 9.30am for tea or coffee and a chance to chat with interest group leaders in the Welton Room, followed by a speaker at 10.30am. Visitors are welcome to attend one meeting without obligation – simply inform reception on arrival and a friendly greeter will show you around.

On Thursday 4th September, Margaret Dickinson will speak about her Life as an Author. Born in Gainsborough and later moving to the coast, her early life fostered her love of the sea and Lincolnshire. On Thursday 2nd October, Nick Martin will give a talk on Britain’s Best Wildlife. Speakers throughout the year cover a wide variety of topics, offering something for everyone.

Members can also access online talks, workshops and courses via http://www.u3a.org.uk. For those unable to attend general meetings, there is an informal coffee morning at the ‘Gardeners’ Retreat’ tearoom, Scothern Nurseries, at 10.15am on the fourth Thursday of each month. The next will be on Thursday 25th September. This is open to newcomers wanting to find out more as well as existing members who simply fancy a cuppa and a chat.
