Lea WI

Colin Wright from The Gainsborough Bowmen is something of an all-round action hero. Not only does he fire arrows and throw axes, but he also works with local young people to help channel their energy into healthy, outdoor sports and interests. Regardless of age, whether someone fancies themselves as a fencer or dreams of kayaking the seven seas, Colin is the person to speak to. His right-hand assistant, Becca, is equally energetic, though a little less talkative. When the ladies at Lea Women’s Institute tried their hand at axe throwing, the session brought euphoric highs and gut-wrenching lows. Near misses earned groans of anguish as the iron ‘angels’ flew in all directions except the target. It’s not as easy as it looks, so hitting the bullseye was a triumph well worth celebrating.

The Gainsborough Bowmen can be followed on Facebook or contacted via email at gainsboroughbowmen@gmail.com. The next meeting of Lea WI will take place on Thursday 7th August at 7.00pm, at Lea Village Hall, DN21 5JA. Kevin Taylor will be the guest speaker, presenting the exciting world of drone piloting – offering attendees a bird’s eye view of the world.
