Beckingham and District Gardeners’ Club

The speaker at the meeting of Beckingham and District Gardeners’ Club on Monday 19th May was Ed Cooke from Meadow Makers, a family business based in Dunham on Trent that promotes an eco-friendly approach to gardening using UK native wildflowers. Ed is passionate about creating habitats for native plants, bees, butterflies, amphibians and other wildlife. His talk highlighted the importance of introducing more native wild plants into gardens and public spaces to encourage biodiversity and help sustain the food chain.

The meeting on Monday 16th June at 7.00pm will be a visit to a member’s beautiful garden in Gunthorpe. Developed over 27 years, the garden reflects the member’s passion for both encouraging wildlife and creating a peaceful, tranquil space for relaxation. As the garden is being opened for charity, there will be a charge of £5.00, which includes cake and a drink. Visitors are welcome – those interested are encouraged to get in touch.

July will be a busy month for the Garden Club. There will be no formal meeting, as members will be attending the RHS Flower Show at Wentworth Woodhouse on Wednesday 17th July and visiting Morton Nursery on Monday 21st July.

Non-members are welcome to attend any meeting featuring a guest speaker. The club charges £4.00 for visitors, or offers an annual subscription of £15.00 per member or £20.00 for a family, which includes refreshments. Meetings are held in Beckingham Recreation Room and begin at 7.30pm.

Anyone with an interest in gardening, the environment or related subjects is warmly encouraged to attend. It is a small and friendly club, and both visitors and new members will be made very welcome.
