Beckingham and District Gardeners’ Club

Beckingham and District Gardeners’ Club’s meeting on Monday 17th February, with Sarah Hackney demonstrating Willow Working and guiding members on how to make a willow sculpture, was very popular. Members made either a heart or a dragonfly, which, following completion, was taken home to have pride of place in their gardens. Sarah, who is a very experienced Willow Worker, holds regular workshops in the local area.

The Club is currently preparing their annual programme for 2025-26 and has some excellent speakers. These include Mal Reynolds on Monday 15th September, who will be talking about growing Chrysanthemums. Mal has won the National Championship for growing large-flowering Chrysanthemums for the last two years; and Martin Fish, on 20th October, who is a Garden Consultant for several national garden magazines and regularly broadcasts on Radio Lincolnshire. The club is also going to the Wentworth Woodhouse RHS Flower Show on Thursday 17th July, and has four seats spare on the coach, if anyone is interested.

The meeting on 14th April will be the Annual General Meeting, followed by speaker David Lewis, who will talk about Perennials and their role in the garden.

Anyone who is not a member of the club but is interested in listening to any of the speakers is welcome to any meeting. The club charges £4.00 for visitors, or an annual subscription of £15.00 per member or £20.00 for a family, which includes refreshments if one wishes to join. The meetings are held in Beckingham Recreation Room and start at 7.30pm.

If you are interested in gardening, the environment, or related subjects, why not go along? It is a small club, and visitors or new members will be made very welcome.
