Although winter is a quieter time for Gainsborough in Bloom due to the weather, the team has remained active in the community.
On Thursday 14th December last year, after Storm Darragh delayed plans, all 17 planters around the town were filled with wallflowers, provided by Chilvers. These should begin to add some welcome colour to the town as the weather improves.
Thanks must go to Covenham Sailing Club for their generous gift of a boat to the Town Council, which donated £100 to the club in return.
The plan is to transform this into a key feature within the town once conditions allow.
Covenham Sailing Club works in collaboration with RYA Sailability, a national charity dedicated to ensuring that people living with long-term health conditions, disabilities, or vulnerabilities have the opportunity to learn to sail safely.
A photograph captures the Mayor of Gainsborough, Councillor Kenneth Woolley, alongside Paul Smith from Covenham Sailing Club, who built the boat. This unique feature should make a great addition to the town, with further details to follow once it is ready.
At this time of year, Gainsborough in Bloom also liaises with other volunteer groups and organisations to coordinate plans for the town and highlight key projects to the judges, either through the annual portfolio report or during their visit in July.
The Gainsborough in Bloom AGM took place in February, during which the theme and colour scheme for 2025 began to be finalised. As plants must be ordered in bulk to ensure delivery in late spring, preparations are already underway. Activity will then accelerate throughout spring and summer to achieve the group’s plans and goals.
Suggestions are always welcome for consideration.
Further details on events, meetings, and contact information can be found on www.gainsboroughinbloom.co.uk and the group’s Facebook page. Gainsborough in Bloom welcomes anyone who would like to volunteer or support its efforts in any way.
