The season of goodwill has arrived, and Lindsey u3a offers a fantastic opportunity to make the most of it. The annual membership fee of £17.00 has stayed the same for the third year running. For just £17.00 a year, members can attend 12 monthly meetings, which include refreshments and a speaker, plus join any interest group that appeals. What’s to lose?
Lindsey u3a meets at Welton Village Hall, typically on the first Thursday of the month. Guests are welcome to attend a meeting without any obligation. Doors open at 9.45am for tea and coffee, followed by a speaker at 10.30am.
On Thursday 6th February, the speaker will be Steve Barclay, a comic entertainer who has performed at many theatres across the country, including seasons at Swansea Grand, the Bristol Hippodrome, Leeds City Varieties, the London Palladium, and most recently as a pantomime dame for seven seasons at Lincoln’s Theatre Royal. His talk, entitled Comedy Heroes, promises to be both engaging and entertaining.
On Thursday 6th March, the short Annual General Meeting will begin at 10.15am, followed by Malcolm Ross’s fascinating talk, Lucy Tower Graves. The Lucy Tower at Lincoln Castle, originally built over a thousand years ago, became a burial ground in the early 19th century. Graves of prisoners who were hanged at the castle still lie within Lucy Tower. Who were they? What crimes did they commit? Malcolm will unveil the compelling stories behind these graves.
If unable to attend a general meeting, members and guests can join for a cuppa and chat at the Gardeners’ Retreat tearoom at Scothern Nurseries at 10.15am on the fourth Thursday of each month. The next coffee morning will be held on Thursday 23rd February. Whether you’re new and want to know more about Lindsey u3a or already a member seeking a chat over a scone and a cup of tea, everyone is welcome.
